Zenith Flash-Matic home

As mentioned in another thread I drove up and got the Zenith Flash Matic set I won on eBay, sheesh, $10 for the set, $155 for gas :tears:

It's not bad, not cherry but not bad, needs cleaning badly.
Since I knew it had already been plugged in I went ahead and powered it up, gets raster and a big hum in the sound but get this, the remote functions work! :thmbsp:

Shining a flashlight in the slots makes the channel changer turn and the sound mute, not sure about the other functions as I didn't want to run it too long.

CRT is toast though, anyone have a good 21ACP4?

Pictures to follow when I get time.

I have a 21" tube that might work... I think the number is gone, but you can send me an eMail and I'll check it out. There were only about 3 physical shapes for those tubes, so it might just fit!

I put a 21CBP4 in mine, it fit fine. The neck is shorter but that didn't seem to matter. There seems to be some difference around the face but it's minor.

I have a NIB 21AWP4 but the book says that's not a sub?

You're far, far away, but I've been looking for a 21AWP4 for a while for a Capehart:

Built in UHF and all, but it's got a brightener on it.

Here are some pics I took this evening.

I pulled the back off and poked around a little, the chassis is really clean but this is a high mileage set as there are very few original Zenith tubes in there, the CRT is one of them.
While I said the CRT was toast really it's just weak, it does work OK as-is.
Flyback looks great with a nice solid tire.

I was able to tune a pretty good picture but the sound is bad with a huge hum, bridging the only filter I could reach made no difference.

Note: don't take flash pictures of a Flash-Matic, it freaks them out. :lmao:

The third pic is a 21FJ she gave me, it was used and as it turns out was a dud, the red gun is dead. :tears:
