RCA 630TS Picture control
A pal kindly did an alignment of my RCA 630TS and both video and sound are greatly improved.
Question 1. Is the Picture control just a manual gain control? Question 2. Is it normal for that control to peak around midrange, then go back down as you turn it farther in either direction? In other words, dark when fully counterclockwise, maximum picture around midrange, and dark when fully clockwise. This set has been recapped and aligned, but that control behavior seems a little odd (most controls get "bigger" until you're fully clockwise). Should I check the Rs on that line? |
Phil,
Question 1 - Yes it's a manual RF/IF gain control Question 2 - At one end of the control it will cutoff the signal and you will just see a blank raster/dark screen. At the opposite end you may start overloading the set (gain full up), this all depends on the signal level you are putting into the set. Best setting I have found is to turn the control up until you see the picture start to tear or lose sync then back it down until picture is clear and stable. Again depending on signal levels it may never breakup. Chuck |
Thanks, that makes sense.
I'm mighty impressed with the pic & sound quality at this point, even using my second-best 10BP4. Works great whether using rabbit ears, VCR, or a DVD player. I can't wait to install it in the cabinet -- as soon as I negotiate with my wife on where to put it! Maybe I should pay this guy to teach me how to do an alignment with my equipment. I suspect that most if not all of my other sets could benefit. |
