DuMont RA112

I picked up a DuMont yesterday. This is an interesting set, it has FM, it's got the inductuner with a tuning eye tube, 4 stages of video IF amplification, and what appears to be 2 HV retcifier tubes. The 19AP4 tests good, but the cabinet needs some work.

Hi Adam:

I'm glad you got that set. I saw it on Craigslist but didn't even consider it because of its size. When you get it working let me know what you think of that tuner. I have worked on a number of DuMonts and other sets that use the same tuner and I really don't like them. I prefer the standard tuner.

You have certainly found about the best built and most interesting line of sets in existance IMHO. You are very lucky also to have the good 19AP4 with no vacuum problems. Don't forget that the rubber sleeve over the metal part of the crt is there for a reason, If it is still there. If not just remember that the cone is the metal part, and to keep hands far away. Especially during operation.

Dont worry about the tuner. It should work fine and only adds to the sets many features that set it apart from the rest.

I would love to have another DuMont from the 40's but there doesent seem to be as many out here on the east coast. I guess maybe because they were more of a high end product marketed to the elite. They were the cutting edge at that time. Pretty darn expensive as well. The average family likely could not afford such a set. They had to stick with Muntz, and Motorola....

I think the finish on mine can be salvaged. Mine is identical. I hope to do this over the winter (if I don't get laid off).

Nice find. I certainly concurr that Dumont knew how to make a quality set. Finding a good 19AP4 is a definite plus.
