late '50s-early '60s Zenith

Polaraman's Zenith post got some dusty old wheels turning in my head...
We used to have a Zenith B&W TV that's similar to these two, but not exactly like either. The speaker grille was divided into 3 parts, a large one in the center flanked by 2 smaller rectangular ones. I'm guessing on the age, because my Mom & Dad got married in 1959. It also looked similar to the 2 pictured, which are from that era. Does anybody have pics of what I'm trying to describe? It would be cool to see one again. Ours had legs like the one in the garage in the attached pic. I've searched old threads, but couldn't find anything. The older posts don't have pics, thanks to the server crash a while back. |
I have a similar Zenith set but mine has a pull down adjustment cover just below the screen. It also has a large knob in both top corners. It HAD a remote (anybody got one). I have a thread that mentions my turmoil with this set. I replaced nearly every cap and checked every resistor and the set only hums (as if a filter was gone in the power supply) with no vertical sweep. I got disgusted and set it aside. I have been thinking of tackling it again after (if) I finish my RCA.
I love the way the set looks. It has a metal X over the speaker grille and 24" screen. A 24" screen and a remote would be living high on the hog in the 50's |
