You are correct in that the "P4" suffix indicates a Black-and-white CRT.
Actually, the "P4" suffix means "medium-short persistence white phosphor" (usually zinc sulfide, for a B&W picture).
The "P22" suffix indicates "arranged groups of red, green and blue phosphors" (i.e., color).
Both types of CRT come with a varying number of electrodes (elements).
