As stated, radios are designed to use loop antennas or not. Simpler or earlier sets that use long wire antennas either won't work well or at all with the radical alteration that adding a loop would be. A loop antenna takes the place of the antenna coil in the set, and there may be other windings on the set's antenna coil that wouldn't be provided for by the loop. I.E., not a good idea to do. There are plenty of ways to use a radio that needs a long wire antenna so that the wire is unobtrusive. For example, the wire can be run under the edge of the carpet, and/or under the edge of the carpet and then up under the curtain and hooked to the curtain rod, or to the metal window screen.
