There is no such thing as no good. It might be not worth repairing but as you say, nothing to lose by opening it and seeing if it's just dirt or a bad bearing or a burned winding. All can be repaired and, in fact, there are people who do such things. Finding a new one may be difficult so be careful you don't damage what's left.
