Some folks, especially those who lived as adults through the Great Depression of the 1930s, just held on to the old stuff as long as it worked, and didn't care what it looked like or if the styling, color, etc. was out of date if they still had it 20+ years later. My grandmother had a Sears Kenmore stove she bought new in the late 1940s; she kept it until she passed in 1985. The stove was still working at the time. It was white, with just a hint of blue behind the knob for the cooking timer. I have an old friend, one year younger than I am, who just raved over that stove; he thought it was the coolest thing he had ever seen.
