IIRC, the NEC outlawed the use of the neutral wire for grounding the machine, in all new installations, starting with the 1996 code.
BTW, who made the laundry machines for Eaton's.
It's a re-badged GE. This one's pretty special as it's not only a defunct brand, it's a Canadian brand, and I don't think we ever had many of our own brand names.
