turning right (CW)should cause the pic to become dark and lose or start to lose sync turning to the left (CCW) should start to lose definition of the pic (blurry).

did you confirm the channel on the output from the signal devise? 3 or 4 for most common consumer grade RF modulators used on dvd or digital to analog converter boxes.

I suppose its possible there is a gear reversing the direction of the tuner on your set, perhaps someone with the exact same model can chime in to confirm the fine tube adjustment.

If the osc slugs used for the gross setup are way off on one channel I suppose you could have an issue with backward fine tuning.

Try another video source with a different channel output and confirm the operation of the fine tuning, see if it works the same way for different channels (assuming you have access to devises that can output to more than one channel). confirm the outputs as well with more modern tvs that still have an analog tuner.
