Texas Museum of Broadcasting & Communications

For the last couple of years, I've been working hard to get this museum established. It looks like it is actually going to happen. In the first couple of weeks of November, we will acquire a permanent home in Kilgore, Texas. It is an 18,000 square foot building that was originally a 1950's Chevrolet dealership. It is a very cool building and just a quick walk to antique shops, restaurants and other museums.

Once we get the building, there is a lot to do. Even though it is in pretty good condition, there are numerous issues to address to bring it up to current codes and ADA standards. I'm hoping we can start to open to the public sometime in the late spring of 2016. We will probably start small and grow as we go along. Like Disneyland, it will never be finished. Doing this is going to take a lot of work and a lot of money. Volunteers and donations are always appreciated.

The plan is to have a working TV studio, using vintage gear, at least two working radio studios, as well as a large collection of radio & TV broadcast gear. There will also be a display of vintage radios and TV's. Our 1949 DuMont Telecruiser (TV Mobile Unit) will be one of the featured displays. I hope it will eventually be one of the best museums of its kind in the USA.

Take a look at www.txmbc.org and visit us (and like us) on Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/txmbc There is a pretty good video on the web site, courtesy of the TV show, "The Texas Bucket List." You may find it interesting.

Wish me luck.....
