Every bonded safety glass I have encountered is actual glass. The only plexiglass (plastic) safety glass I have encountered is cabinet mounted and is separate from the CRT. You can't hurt the safety glass with heat unless you thermally shock it (change it's temperature rapidly) typically the CRT which is under mechanical stress cracks first under that scenario.
The glue between the safety glass and CRT is PVA as I understand it.
