The network audio lines really sucked. AT&T ran the networks. While the video was microwave, the audio was over copper. When I worked at an ABC station, when they did regional games, a guy would come on prior to the game (in b&w) with a large card with the MW hookup. Then he would flip the card and said "the audio goes this way." In variably we'd get the wrong audio with the video. The networks didn't go stereo till satellite distribution started and AT&T was abandoned (around 1984).
