I hope they weren't injured. No FD sounds like a now-desolate area, de-investment in rural USA. Some ghost towns in PA still have a FD.
A friend of mine had his AT oil overheat and car-becue his 3 YO truck, trailer and boat in rural western PA, descending a long grade.
He and buds got out, GM wrote a check (ins?), we cheered. The "yinzer" later went shopping for a new Ram, despite our cautions.
