To discharge the tube I use a thin, long flatblade screw driver with an alligator clip lead to the screw driver, and the other end clipped to the chassis. I then slide the screwdriver tip under the rubber cap and touch the anode connnection for 30 seconds.

In some cases some HV will bleed off through the coating on the shell of the ttube, and even sometimes through a ground connection on the neck if it has one. Even if you don't see/hear the arc ELECTRICITY IS THERE! i learned the hard way once, and ow....

I even keep the screwdriver and leads conected while I'm pulling tubes or working around the HV cage just because I'm paranoid.
