One other thought to indicate the mid 50s... Notice the skinnier "z"? Not just in the horizontal tail of the Z which would be hard to reproduce in neon, but also in the vertical part? When did Zenith fatten up the "Z"?
But it is hard to believe they'd produce signs for sets that were never sold.
