My CT-100 gets moved
I recently moved to a somewhat larger apartment. It was only 250 yards but the pain was the same as across town.
My valuable console TVs had to be tilted to get them down the stairs. Today I was finally able to turn on the CT-100. There was no signal yet available. That is for tomorrow ... I do get all the local ATSC channels reliably with a double bowtie antenna 7 feet off the ground, on my 55 inch Sony. I turned on the CT-100. I got a normal snow raster which adjusted normally. But no sound at all, not even a bit of hum. I will investigate tomorrow. I did wiggle the tubes and the speaker connection, to no avail. Last edited by dtvmcdonald; 05-17-2024 at 08:03 PM. |

I found my converter box and agile modulator and connected them up.
Result was perfect picture, in convergence, with no adjustments except setting the user controls to their marked positions. Still no sound, thus, this becomes a repair thread. Unconnected P.S.: I missed the ultra-rare male Cerulean Warbler at the park yesterday, by about an hour and a half. |

The only part of the audio easily reachable with only the top removed is Sam's C88,
on the volume control tap. There's audio there, so the problem is at or after the volume control wiper. The plate contact of the audio output may be reachable, if so, I can feed audio there with the set off and check the output transformer and speaker, and then try a new tube. The audio in this set is a pain. |

15 volts audio into the output plate contact made sound. So good output transformer and speaker.
Testing for signal at grid of the output tube (not easy to get probe in) found no signal. Getting the 6AV6 out is not easy, but done. Dead filament with over 1/8 inch of coiled heater showing! I was supposed to have a NOS 6AV6 but can't find it. So I stole one from another set. CT-100 fixed. I think I should learn that it plays to try swapping tubes before circuit tracing. But for audio in a CT-100 it generates a lot of swearing (no no No No NO NO NO! NO!). |

Glad to hear it was just an audio problem resulting from a bad tube.

P.S.2: I tried my other "antique" color TV, a 2022 toy replica of a Baird mechanical set (32 @ 12.5p) modified by me to be in color. It just worked. A set this coarse is unwatchable in black and orange, but surprisingly is really watchable in color on suitable material, typically the shopping networks.
The 1938 Marconi 702 also just worked. So did the TT5, though adjusting it took 15 minutes. Last edited by dtvmcdonald; 05-21-2024 at 03:03 PM. |

Somewhat Lighter Blue Banana
The luma is a little low on the earlier blue banana, so I also did this somewhat lighter version. Take your pick. Enjoy.

Hmm. First post shows dancing darker blue banana at my end. Second post only shows a file name at my end. Both files play fine locally and are the same size and type as the original yellow version. Not sure what the trouble could be. Mysterious server issue? Perhaps not worth the trouble to diagnose. Just did it for a few laughs.
Update: Yeah, it's some sort of permissions issue. I changed the second post to be the original yellow banana and it still won't work. I uploaded the file using the Manage Attachments function, then attempted to include it in the post. Just shows the file name. I don't have picture storage at another site that I can link to. Oh, well. Update 2: I've uploaded the lighter version to a Flickr account and posted a link to the file. See if you can download it from there and if it will display properly at your end. If so, perhaps someone else can figure out how to integrate it into the server's emoji collection. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...f10b74_o_d.gif Last edited by TVBeeGee; 05-26-2024 at 09:26 AM. |

How's this?
dancing blue banana.gif Apparently small enough file to sneak onto the tiny amount of upload space I have left as a gif, but I wish there was a way to add it to the smilie list. |

Hi to all,
Hi TVBeeGee, my apologies, i was seeing the dancing blue banana all along. I was expecting to see a jpg photo of the famous NTSC demo fruit bowl with the blue banana (which drove the tech staff crazy during the demo) and that your dancing banana was a humorous Emoji. Sorry! for the trouble, Best Regards jhalphen Paris/France |

My post didn't work the way I hoped. Have to open the gif in a separate window. What a pain.
