Value of new 21" predicta crt?
I am wondering what the value would be on a NOS 21" predicta holiday crt? I found one and have no idea the worth.
Thanks Dan |

Not to steal the thread but I was watching Stargate Atlantis the other night an on this world they were visiting in the lab there was computer equipment including guess what? Yep. I started laughing, pointing and talking to my wife who thought I had lost it when I start pointing out televisions on worlds millions of light years from earth. Not familiar with the model names but if is the table top, gold tone grill on the front (at least that's what it looked like).

Sorry to borrow the thread also, but YES Bryan you're 100% correct. I've seen Stargate Atlantis also and they do quite prominently display several Philco Predicas in the "Science Lab". I believe they are the Predicta "Holiday" models. I counted at least two of them in the background, maybe more if the camera would pan across the entire room. What a HOOT !!!!!

Does it have the original packaging? Are you sure it's not a used tube? Is there any date of manufacture? |

It should be worth at least a couple of hundred dollars. I would think it would matter if it is NOS Philco, or some cheaper brand, or rebuilt.
From what I hear many of the stock Philco crt's were bad before the warranty ran out. So there should be a lot of demand for what you have. Even if it is one of the problematic type it could still be a hot item because it is new and will last for a while at least... |

This belongs to still in business TV repairman. I will actually see it Friday. Will keep you posted as to what exactly it is. He told me Philco had a CRT failure rate in the first year of 80% with the Predicta. He worked on them when they were new.

I would compare it with what a rebuild would cost. Are they running around $300 now? You can't use that rule with just any crt, but on a somewhat rare tube I think it is accurate. Similiar tubes for other models might only be worth $30 or so.

So far I have found out it is a 19", and not a 21". My crt is weak. See if it brightens like my Admiral has, or otherwise I will be in the market for who knows?

Last time I asked, the cost to rebuild is still under $150. They skyrocketed to that, after VDC bought out all the local CRT rebuilders. In the 80s and early 90s, I'd get Predicta tubes (and all other B&W CRTs including 10BP4s) for $29 at Dunbar, and 21FJP22s for $39.50 all day long. Then B&W's went to $39, and delta color tubes to $50.
Straight answer to the question: I'd say maybe the cost of a present-day rebuilt. NOS may still have gas, or other problems. Predictas are not rare in any way, so having a NOS Philco tube with tags hidden inside the shell wouldn't make any difference in the TV value, in my opinion. In the case of an early RCA like a 621, having a silver-inked screenprinted original RCA tube with a 1946 date code is very important. But not for a Predicta. Charles
