Old TV's/ That Thing You Do

Over the past few days TVLand has been running that movie " That Thing You Do". The film is based in 1964. I couldn't believe all of the old TV's, Stereo's etc....that were featured in that film.

I really liked the set that the Patterson family had in their living room. I only saw it briefly, but was that a Zenith Space Command 600 ?

I wonder where all of the old TV's etc came from that were featured ? I would say either, private collections or a museum.

In the family's TV/radio/appliance store, they have a row of RCA Victor chairs like mine. I used to have a screen capture from the movie showing one of the scenes with those chairs, but I guess it's lost somewhere on my old computer.

OH yes, yes, I just saw that on the satellite a few days ago. I want to know what htey had in the cabinet that had "AMPEX/MOTOROLA" on it.

What consumer items did ampex sell?

In the 1960s Ampex made one inch industrial color VTR systems for use in hospitals.

I used to service one of these systems and the monitor was a Motorola color set of that time period that had the AMPEX/MOTOROLA name tag on the front and the rear.

It had been modified to accept composite color video from the 'color-proc-amp unit' that sat on top of the TV and which
stabilized the color signal for the TV.

A similar deal existed between Sony and Admiral in the early days of B&W
1/2 inch CV type VTRs. The Sony/Admiral monitors were 17 inch 'portable' style sets modified to accept composite video from the VTR.

I recall, some years ago, an RCA Victor dealer in the San Fernando Valley that had several of these RCA chairs with green vinyl upholstery and a large RCA Victor rug on the floor. The shop is gone now replaced by a super market. Some of you may recall the TV show "American Dreams" which aired 2002-05 on NBC. Took place in Philadelphia in the 60's. The dad owned "Pryor's TV & Radio Sales" with lot's of '63-'65 era TV's both b&w & color.
