Hello Gentlemen,
Just tootin' the horn here, but today at 15:30PM French local time (GMT + 1) France was the first country to enter Free Terrestrial HDTV broadcasting using MPEG-4 technology. 6 channels are available as of today, with many more later. The signal is broadcast in UHF Band IV/V (470-860 MHz) alongside the old SECAM L signal. France selected MPEG-4 as the 1080/50/i signal occupies the same Multiplex channel bandwith as an SD 625 signal. Some sites (sorry, in French) about the event: http://www.lesnumeriques.com/news_id-6519.html http://www.tvnthd.com/V2/pages/286/index.php For once we're not 10 years behind everyone else ... ![]() Best Regards jhalphen Paris/France |

C'est bon! Voulez-vous plus de transistors 2SC1034 ? J'ai encore plus....
Jerome, if you have two HDTVs, you are ahead of me! I do have some more 2SC1034's - six or so, yours for the postage. Cheers,

Hello Brian,
Thanks! for the offer which i accept with joy. As a shameless owner of 10+ KV-5000/5100 5" Trinitrons, "unobtainium" essential spares for future maintenance are always very welcome. Quote by MP & ASAP PayPal payment. Coming back to the thread topic, i have no HDTV yet. Would like a Panasonic 42" Plasma Full-HD + 5 year warranty, apparently the "less bad" brand of modern stuff from friends comments in TV repair in several Euro-countries, however do not have the heart to obsolete my 10 YEAR OLD! Fujitsu 42" genuine non-HD Plasma, especially when an A**-hole salesman told me: "that's amazing, you can never expect such reliability from a product made after the year 2000"...so i will just wait. More S*** product info: Have a NetGear DSL modem + Wi-Fi router. Range: zilch, a few feet, open up the device: the 4" antenna is connected to .... the ground plane! Sh*** antenna, a 4" piece of bare wire inside a plastic tube, no GND, no helical, no nuttin'. Got rid of it & installed a nice 5 foot METAL whip, proper range now, but thinking of a 2.5 GHZ RF power module for more Oomph. Ashaming for a brand name product with a reputation. BTW, these people: http://www.cornetmicro.com/ Make a very interesting, affordable Wi-Fi spectrum Analyzer, channels 1 through 14, 120 Euros over here in the EC. Best Regards jhalphen Paris/France |

Are you going to be able to use your old sets in the future? HDTV is quite scary as it usually means that old CRT sets will have to be retired.
Personally, i don't really care about HDTV and i'm glad that there are no plans to switch OTA broadcasts to HDTV here in Italy. |

I´m glad we have no similar plans either, but in our case I think it´s due to the implementation cost. We will get there, eventually, though.
