CTC-11F remote set in alabama

Looks like a good project. Someone grab this, the 11s have a great picture when fixed up.

What's a CTC-11 doing with safety glass??? I always thought the 11 was the first 21FJP22 with bonded glass. The 10, however, was a CY with safety glass. The brown plastic aux. knobs are familiar with the 11. I wonder if this set is original, or if maybe someone had an 11 in a cheap cabinet and bad CRT, and put the chassis in this cabinet (maybe 30 years ago; not accusing the seller)? As far as I remember, the 10 & 11 are physically identical, and I don't remember what differences exist electronically. Additionally, I wonder if that's an RCA cabinet at all; not a store house brand set, with that style of mask? I may be way off on this whole thing too...

The control layout is the same as on my 10 except the light and the remote sensor are in a different place on this cabinet. Also the channel indicator window is circular on this set instead of square.

Charles,

I have an 11 in a metal cabinet that has the seperate flat safety glass with the 21FBP. You can see the finger prints on the flat glass. Looking at the design of the bezel and trim (the upper trim piece is what secures it in place), it would seem to be the original design. Perhaps they are a little earlier versions.

Also have an 11 with the fake photo finish cabinet and a bonded 21FJP and severe cataracs.

Doug has a video of a similar set with the safety glass:

Yep, my -11 has the safety glass, too. I guess that was the transition year.

Interesting on the mid-year safety glass omission... Now that I think about it, I think there's an 11 in a cheap black metal cabinet in a collection here in SoCal with safety glass, and the weird knobs. It's probably a case where they didn't have total control on the inventory, and they didn't want to waste a bunch of extra masks, etc. Same as how RCA continued a special version of the CTC-38-sized chassis (CTC-20, IIRC), to dump a stash of remaining 21FJP22s at the very end of the roundie era.

Yeah, mine had the weird knobs as well... like what you would find on a ctc 9. They got lost a long time ago. I think I like the later ones better.

Actually, I had a CTC-10 many years ago that had a 21FJP in it. I've seen CTC-16's with 21FBP's too but of course with the curved glass. Could be price and model had something to do with it. But back to the original thread, I believe the 11's may have been the last year for the flat glass.

That was a transition year for sure.
Mine has ctc10 and over it they stamped ctc11 in ink on the chassis.
The metal "COLOR" badge on the bottom front on my set is bigger and up higher on the plastic bezel. Had a 21CYP22 originally. Has remote control and a built in UHF tuner which is not remote controlled. On my set the little red dial lite is below the 4 adjustment knobs. Mine has an "RCA Victor" metal badge on the bottom of the speaker cloth.

Did "New Vista" come into play with the -10 or the -11?

I'm pretty sure "New Vista" was new to the CTC-11.
