looks nice, but I am not good at determining what year and whether its all tube or hybrid or all SS.
sorry for the low light level Last edited by DaveWM; 03-18-2013 at 12:04 PM. |

Looks like an all SS from about 1980.

sylvania from 1980-1981 model year.depending on the chassis number,(e-48 was the last to have a delta gun).very rare to find a combo.black matrix delta produces the finest picture of all.grab it if you can!

QFT! Those Sylvania sets make an excellent picture... Tuner issues (cold solder I think) but excellent pictures, and certainly the end of an era. Made as late as '83-'84?

I had a Sylvania Superset console, bought new in '79. I was in the market for a new TV and looked all over the area to find a Sylvania dealer since it had a good reputation for picture quality. Had motorized tuning and ultrasonic remote (running the vacuum cleaner in the same room would make the set change channels!) Was very happy with it with few problems, nothing I couldn't easily fix. Still in warranty the horizontal output transistor went out and was replaced by the dealer on a housecall. It went out again about a year later and I went to RatShack and got an equivalent and installed it. Cut some cooling fins out of aluminum and gooped them up with heat sink grease and that screwed to the original heat sink kept the HOT cool.
The HOT socket would get dicey so had to put some hairpin bends in the transistor leads to make contact from time to time. Pic tube went dim with heavy use after about 15 years, replaced that. Somewhere after years the tripler started to arc so scraped off the burn and coated with silicone and it worked for years more. Finally it fried so replaced it some years later. At last after 25 years regretfully said goodbye to the Sylvania and got a 36" CRT Toshiba which is Herniasville to horse around!Reece

i had the same superset.e-48 chassis with remote super tuner.could change channels with my keyring.got it in a trade with my neighbor.the set had no back and during a party someone fell over it and the crt wouldnt light.a repair man was called and told her the crt was busted.i traded a 19 inch portable for this set.the socket board had a crack and a little soldering-BAM!!!great picture.that black matrix tube was the best.fashioned a back for it and we used for 10 years.gave it to my buddy down the street.he still has it to this day.replaced crt back in the late 90s with a channelmaster25v.nice,but not that sylvania look.no other repairs.30 years old and still going strong.one of the few sylvanias of that vintage that lasted.
