Philco Model 22B4001 Found
Lately mid 50's B&W sets have been coming out of the woodwork around here. Just got a call from the local recycle plant manager. He knew I was looking for a few nice old TV's. I hope he doesn't mind me posting these pictures. Something tells me this one was in pristine condition before it got tossed around on the way to the recycler.
I'm not particularly attracted to it, but would be a shame to see it torn up. Anybody know if this is an AC transformer powered set? Kevin |

Great save, I have similar set with a 17" tube, I don't think it's a full transformer set but I seem to recall it had a transformer only for the heaters possibly?
Philco had a zillion different chassis in those sets. |

Hi Eric,
Well I haven’t exactly saved it, yet. I made them an offer of $10, waiting to hear back. I'm a pretty thrifty TV shopper. I was told they tried selling it on ebay about a year and a half ago, no takers. Kevin Last edited by Kevin Kuehn; 01-21-2011 at 02:48 PM. |

I think your offer is fair. I'd probably top out at $15. These can be good playing sets.
Odd look to that crt-shaped more like something from the late 60s/early 70s.

Anyone know what CRT is used in this set?

The CRT is either a 21ZP4 or a 20CP4.

That is a beautiful set. Is the cabinet wood or metal? I love Philco products. I only have two of their radios, a 37-610 tombstone and a Bakelite PT-2 or whatever the post war model number of that is. There are several Philco models I like but have never seen that one before. Looks like a good restoration candidate.

The guy that called me said the cabinet was wood. Almost looks like a painted finish in the pictures, though. Possibly the sides are even masonite material. I find the gold surround overpowering to the basic style of the cabinet, but that's just personal opinion.

It seems to have provision for four different types of antenna terminals. Anyone
knows what this would mean? |

OK, now I can say "Great save!"
![]() A good 21WP4 is worth the $15 alone. The set looks to be in very good shape, I'm pretty sure the bezel's original, the decals wouldn't be there if the cabinet had been cut for a larger tube. |
