Bakelite Admiral in "When Worlds Collide".

I can't remember if this has been posted before but anyway.

Spotted this TV in the 1951 movie When World Collide, it would have been nearly new at the time, and note, it still has it's control door!
The screen is a special effect of course but at least it's in B&W, guess no one would have believed it being in color in 1951.

Also the guy in the wheelchair must have been the model for Mr Burns on the Simpsons , he talks like him and even has a Flunky (Ferris) he's always yelling for. (Mr Drucker from Green Acres)

My first fleeting thought when I saw the title of your post was that it was going to be about a bakelite Admiral smashed in shipping!

I thought of the line from that song in "The Rocky Horror picture Show"..."And When Worlds Collide, said George Pal to his Bride..."

It looks like a 16R12 Admiral and the time frame would be about correct.

Looks like a 16R12 to me too. Somehow I don't think I've seen this movie yet. I'll put it on my list .

That's inconceivable that you've missed it all these years! It a staple of classic 50's Sci-Fi.

It's rather badly dated and they didn't seem to know the difference between a Planet and a Star, but it's lots of fun.

Probably missed it because I watched so much really bad sci-fi and horror on Elvira, Commander USA, Svengoolie and MST3K

The trouble w/watching old sci-fi on TV 'round here is that apparently, some noodlehead decided it was a Treasured Demographic, & they LOADED up the commercials...You'd see 3 minutes of a 17th-generation copy of a badly-produced grade-z flick, then 5 minutes of "I HAVE A STRUCTURED SETTLEMENT, & I NEED CASH NOW..." and then 5 minutes of asinine banter between Dr. Roboto and his sidekick, BoogerBoy...And a flick that started at 11.30 at nite might run til 4-4.30 AM...Fuggeddaboutit...

If I had read this post a week ago, I wouldn’t have thought any thing about the movie. But I’ve been going through old VHS tapes, and ran across a recording of it that I’m guessing I made in the ‘80s. Needless to say, I’ve never watched it. I’ll have to watch the commercials (and maybe the movie) to see what model year the car ads are.

Later in the film the Pilot is watching his girlfriend on the big screen, high def, color, flat panel monitor inside the Rocketship.
Wonder if it was Plasma or LCD?

Note the Pegboard walls inside the ship, so high tech, so Ed Wood.

Just got done seeing this movie...and what a treat! ( I torrented it....so shame on me, but I'll buy it when the chance arises).

Turns out I saw this before WAY back when maybe I was five or six...and I'm 46 now. I remember this movie with all the people being the only ones to leave Earth on this rocket on a track. I think I wondered what that movie was ALL that time since then...until today :-)

I had no idea this movie was this old. It was one of those that sorta "stuck" with me and was scary (hey...I was a little kid!). This is about the same time I saw War of the Worlds (the 1953 one with the wierd eye....Ironic that eye resembles a CRT triad)...... and THAT one scared the HELL outta me! :-P

In "The Seven Year Itch", Tom's wife and son are in a fantasy segment he's having, they're on a trip to a resort, and on the dock is what looks like an Emerson portable tv with a color picture. Marilyn Monroe as the girl upstairs does her Dazzledent toothpaste ad, then tells the views about the horrible man downstairs from her that attacked her. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRFUwzpMmJU

As a guess, I believe the guy in the wheelchair in When Worlds Collide is John Hoyt.

I used to have a 16mm print of this movie, and never noticed the Admiral.

That's right, the guy in the wheelchair is John Hoyt,
who was also in a couple Twilight Zone episodes;
"Will the real martian please stand up" and "The lateness of the hour".
