Motorola VK106

I found this at the flea market on Sunday. The seller had powered it up but could only get sound. The 10BP4 showed no emission when I first tested it. I let it cook at 8.4V on the tester for a few hours and emission came up into the green but dropped back down into the red when I set it back to 6.3V. At least it seems to be waking up. I brought the set up on my variac and could draw an arc from the plate of the 1B3 but can't get HV out of it. The filament resistor was open so I tacked in a replacement but that still didn't get HV. I think it's a pretty cute little set.

Nice set. The cabinet looks something like an Admrial. However, the chassis doesn't look anything like an Admiral.

If you're willing to tell, what flea market did you find that at? I don't see much old tv stuff on the IL side.

I picked it up at the flea market in Wentzville, MO. This was the third time I made it this year and this set was my first purchase from there this year. That flea is hit and miss. Sometimes there are a bunch of old radios and other times there is nothing. Vintage TVs are seldom seen although I have bought a few over the years.

Nice find! I'm jealous of your knobs as the one I found a few months ago is missing them all

Comparing our chassis - yours has a fuseholder where mine has a control Also mine appears to be missing the width or linearity coil.

They were made just days apart. Oct 25th vs. Nov 12th.

Bob, I junked a moto chassis with that width control, I saw it recently when cleaning up but I don't remember if I kept it, I'll take a look.

It's just a wirewound resistor with a screw adjustable contact that rides on it.

Ok, thanks. I wonder if that's what the extra control is on mine ? I'll try to pull the chassis on it soon and investigate.

Looks like you are missing the back too. That's where the HV cage would have been attached. There was also a perforated metal bottom originally.

My cabinet is also stamped Oct. 19. It is missing the knob for the horizontal hold.

Hmm, so the "doghouse" was attached to the back cover and gets removed when the back cover is removed. Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose of having a cover over the HV section?

I quit going to the big Belleville flea market because it became mostly craft stuff, homemade soap, candles, etc. and that's just not my thing. The Route 66 one in Granite City is smaller but better for my kind of thing. But, I've not found much stuff really old there, like before 1960.
