Dirty, ugly Philco

So I saved this from a friend's storage he is about to close - worth while?

I have not tested it, nor have I even cleaned it.

So what can anyone tell me about this? Does anyone need it?

return the favor by providing you with years of fun and authentic B&W viewing
entertainment when watching Mchale's Navey, Bewiched, Father Knows Best,
and other shows made when tv, and tv's were much better....

I have a similarly homely admiral.... it has a role, you know... enjoying an old TV while keeping the hours off the collector's items.

I like the styling... with the knobs below the CRT, it looks like a tiny throwback to early 50s days. Cute!

Same pattern of knob layout as the early large Philco sets? Left to right: Power/volume; Horiz/Vert (concentric); Contrast/Brightness (concentric); Channel/Fine tune (concentric).

That looks very 1965 to me. The chassis number (15J25?) would be helpful as I have a good service book with case history tips.

My grandma won a similar Philco from a drawing when a new Jewel food store opened. As a kid, I was kind of creeped out by it. Not sure why, as we had a b/w portable Zenith as our main TV until '77. After grandma passed on, the set got passed around the family. In the '80s, when I was new to the insides of TVs, I changed a tube in it and was disappointed by the 'tiny' PCB compared to the b/w Zenith. It eventually went up to the UP of Michigan to my aunt & uncle's cabin, where it was later destroyed in a barn fire. The Jewel store closed in '08 and was knocked down last year. A new medical center just opened there last month. Kind of fun to look back at how things come and go.

I will check out the model number. The thing looks sort of late 50s or early 60s to me (I was not sure where to post, here or the more "modern" TV section of the forum).

Anyway, I am near Kingston, NY. I do not want the thing.

Set has UHF tuner so odds are post 1964 to abt 1967. I do
remember them. Not my favorite (yokes) but someone will
enjoy it.
