New Predicta for the collection
My wife brought this home for me today. She got it for $30. It is a hotel model Philco Predicta. Looks about 1959. Seller had already plugged it in once so I did the unthinkable and powered it up. The power switch worked fine, all the knobs are there. Got no sound or raster, but when I changed channels it showed a collapsed bright raster. Looks like the CRT is good and it is making High voltage. Should clean up nice. There is an instruction sticker on the top and one on the side that says Tele Sound, Inc. Philidelphia. There is no built in antenna.

Very nice set for a give-away price. About a year ago I paid $500 for a standard dark brown version, but with the original stand, restored chassis, and replaced excellent CRT.
In my opinion the "Debutante" is only second to the Danish-modern console as the best Predicta. The clean lines with no frills just make you focus on the unusual design. |
