What parts are broken on yours? I could possibly make a cast of my shells.

Hi to all,
the Panasonic CT-101 1.5 inch CRT color TV and its Japanese domestic model TR-101CT (see Hello-Voltage's schematic here) : http://www.videokarma.org/showthread.php?t=277193 all suffer from the same problem: the plastic case produced 1984 to 1987 had plasticizers and anti-fire retardants incorporated. 45 years later, the plastic has outgassed and become extremely brittle to the extent that a joke became popular among collectors: "take one look at a CT-101, and it breaks). The chemical composition of the plastic used by Panasonic in this model has degraded over time and there is no going back. You cannot "rejuvenate" or restore flexibility to this 50 year old material. @Richard_D: just trying to take apart a spotless 101 without breakage would be a feat. Shipping is very risky for the same reason. There are many of these sets out there which often work and are marred by variously broken cases. In my opinion, if someone tackled the task of 3D printing a new case or proposed a ready-to-install Plexiglas case, there would be buyers for such an item. sold 2 the tr-101ct. Have 4 or 5 in (near) flawless condition, shells were removed and they are stored in pieces. Got at least one magnifier. Fortunately none of mine have broken but I do whisper thir disassembly.
Don't have a 3d printer. Do a vacuum chamber suitable for resin casting in this size. Don't have much experience with it yet though for this application. ![]() dusty |

Hi to all,
Hi HelloVoltage, Good job! on dismantling a CT-101 without breaking anything. Breakage is usually at the top or bottom case corners and on the side panel where the controls are located. The front assembly (painted black) appears to be metal and is seldom damaged. The "make a case" suggestion was just an idea for a creative entrepreneur. Even a simple, no-frills case would be better than seeing half the guts stick out from a damaged case. Personally, i know nothing about 3D printing or resin molding, Best Regards jhalphen Paris/France |
