"Wouldn't it look great with another tv set behind the original RCA framing?"

REDRUM...REDRUM...

"Wingate"

As pictured elsewhere on AudioKarma, I own this same model. My cabinet in like new original condition sits in a corner of my living room. I never tire of looking a it. And any thought of gutting it, or one like it, sends chills through me.

Last summer I acquired a Wingate cabinet in excellent condition. It still has the knobs, the 3 speakers and the back. Knobs were rubber cemented into position. The 21AXP22, chassis and tuner were gone. REDRUM I quizzed about the location of the internals of the set. It was possibly tossed because they felt that it would not sell. Cabinet was refitted with a newer table top TV.

Hey Polaraman,
You've got that beautiful French Walnut finish on your cabinet. Keep searching and hopefully a CTC-5 deluxe set with a so-so cabinet will show up. And you can do a chassis swap. They do come up on e-bay. Also an ad in the local area papers may turn up something.

Buy Terry's set and put the guts in your cabinet

Plan B: Put a Trinitron inside and stick on some knobs.

I think we could forgive you for temporarily "Modernizing" that set given the situation.

Cool design

One of RCA's best designs as TV hides away in cabinet when not in use. Did anyone have good luck restoring one of these beauties???? A picture of CRT running is ALWAYS awesome.

Restored Wingate

Nipper,

You can find a picture of my RCA "Wingate" model in operation at my web page listed below. Scroll to the CTC-5 section.

my great grandparents have one of the square tube models with the same or similar design.

it still works perfect to this day! the CRT was replaced sometime in the past, and they claimed that it was marketed as the "RCA 50th anniversery color" All tube set.
