Red face New Here! CTC-10C question

Hello. I'm Bruce. I've been here about 30 minutes!

I have an RCA CTC-10C chassis in its original cabinet. I got this set in 1974 It was in a bunch of junk sets, and it just stuck out. It is in the danish style wood cabinet with a 6x9 speaker on the left side, with a 3" tweeter under it, and another tweeter on the controls side. No UHF or remote here.

I cant find a sticker on the set with the model number. There used to be one on the chassis, but over time it got removed. The original back was gone when I got the set. I found a back in 1982!

As received, it had a broken 21CYP22 in it. I had a 21FBP22 tube sitting here and decided to install it and see what would happen. It worked decently from the start. The flyback fried in 1980, and I happened to have one out of a CTC-11 chassis. It looked the same, so I installed it in my 10. It works! In 1982, I bought an "all new" kine from a large builder in Georgia. This tube is still in here. Original safety glass. Color is off, somewhat, but looks good for its age. B/W image is pretty good. Warms up fast.

Does anybody have a set of knobs for a CTC-10? The ones that I have on this set were removed from one of the other junker sets that were in this group. (Wish I had ALL of them now!) This set has the pretty tan weave grilles on both sides of the screen. Any set will be considered.

My flyback is over 40 years old. I worry about it. I want to find one to have when the day comes. Anybody have a lead to where I might find one?

Sorry to be arriving and asking alot of questions right off the bat like this, but I've been looking for parts for this CTC for a long time. Since I got it in 1974, it has only died once, and that was when the FBT died. Other things were vertical problems, and some audio issues.

All I have ever had to service this set by is a Sams Photofact.

I plan to start on a restoration shortly. I am gathering a list of electrolytics to start with. I'm in no hurry, either. The set currently runs an hour or two a day. I have a Sony Playstation running on it, and it looks fairly decent. Brightness is turned down due to some HV blooming, but the video looks pretty good for an oldie!

All of the tubes are replacements. Most of them were missing when I got the set. I have worked on TV's since the early 1960's, so I have lots of tubes on hand.

Thanks in advance for any info you can give me. My family cant believe that I am going to restore this monster.

The CTC 10 and 11 flybacks are the same part number. (109221) My Thordarson book says FLY 281. I asked a while back for a CTC 11 fly. Bill Moyer finally came up with a replacement 109221 RCA flyback. I do not know if they have another. It is worth a call. They have three locations. I always talk to Bill because he is the owners son. He really has a grasp of all things there. All I need for another CTC 10 or 11 is a cabinet.

I dont have my SAMS handy. I used to keep it inside the cabinet of the TV, but I've moved it somewhere. I'm good at this.

Thanks for the 109221 info on the flyback. I looked at mine last night. It is still not dripping wax.

My installation of the CTC11 fly was a fluke. I had never done that before. Flybacks were always chassis-specific in my mind.

I have a NIB flyback in my garage. I'll find it and see if it is anything that can be used here. Got it in the early 80's by mistake. They didn't want it back.

My set is just beginning to get hum bars in the video. I can see them in the playstation signal.

My set is running with an old VCR acting as its modulator for channel 3. The tuner needs a good cleaning, but since I leave it alone it isn't drifting. I ran it with a 6GH8 replacing the 6EA8 tube in the tuner for years. I had to re-adjust the fine tune, but that was all. Finally bought new tuner tubes, IF, and video tubes years ago. Made a minor difference. They are all GE's but I forgive them.

Polaraman: I owned a 1960 wagon. It was loaded. I got hit in the tailgate. Drivetrain lurched forward thru the radiator and A/C condenser. I couldn't find a tailgate, so the car was junked. I hated that. This was in 1971.

I found the NIB flyback. It's not in the box. The only ID number on it is FR-502.

I also listed it on the swap forum here at AK.

Thanks for any help!

if we could find a picture of those knobs or something close enough...maybe we can put something together amongst the group here. Of course, Moyers might have them by part # but lots of us have piles of old knobs. I have some tuner knobs that look similiar to the one on my -11. They are a 2-part thing where the center stays put & the outside turns along with the channel indicator. If that makes any sense you are doing pretty good!

Thats the one! I dont have pics available, either. Drat. Wish I could get the model number of the TV...

It's Sunday. The TV ran for about 5 hours today. I ran the DVD player on it. Let Gone With The Wind play. The more it played, the more I noticed the buzz in the audio. This was a problem in the past. Then, it was the 6DT6 tube. I'll have to look into this.

Talking Moyer came through!!!

Moyers emailed me this morning. They have the FBT that I need. I have just ordered it from them. Thanks to all of you for your comments. I've been trying, without really trying, to find this FBT since RCA stopped including it in their inventory... about 1985, or so.

I have this orphan FR-502 flyback....

I have a feeling that this CTC-10 is starting its new life.

It's already here!

It's been 3 days since I emailed Moyer. I want to tell you that the flyback is in my hands. It's beautiful.

I have to thank everybody here for their comments.

Bruce
