Emerson Port-O-Rama
Anyone ever see one of these in the flesh?
Would be cute to have on your shelf. |

Nothing like dead analog with an AM radio. I had a poor one and still have the vinyl cover somewhere. It can be had if I can find it.

Yeah, I got one. Not too impressed-Not a very good TV or radio, either. Mine needs the rabbit ears-Neither mode works w/o 'em. Uses same CRT as the 8" contemporary RCA set, IIRC. Prolly Hott Schitt back in 1956-'57, though.

There is one on the 'Bay right now... seller is dreaming, IMHO:
http://cgi.ebay.com/1956-Emerson-Por...item4a9dd363f3 Cheaply made tinny set, The little RCA 8" (8PT 70XX) sets are much nicer. ![]() jr |

I bought one of those a few days ago. Mine is missing the handle and all the original knobs... it does have two 1940's radio knobs on the place of the small knobs.

The industry built many a portable back in the day--RCA, Hotpoint, GE, Admiral....etc... Minimal electronics inside. They'd work OK in the city, but get out into the boonies any distance and it's diddly.

I used to own one. Cute critter. It gets hot in that little cabinet.
http://antiqueradio.org/emer1232.htm I sold it to a gofer who made it a gift for a retiring Emerson executive. I don't normally sell things, but they made an offer I couldn't refuse (and probably wrote it off as an expense). Thanks to the the miracles of trick photography, it's also the only one of my TVs to appear in the Weekly World News ![]() http://antiqueradio.org/tabloid.htm Phil Nelson |

Toxic cute set!
Two things that leave me a little suspicious: 1) The seller's claim that he does not know if the radio works, because there are no AM transmitters in his area (Nelson, BC could very well be without a nearby AMer, but come 30 minutes after nightfall, he should be able to hear plenty of signals on it). 2) Emerson's claim that the set can be used in a car or boat. I don't seen anything in Phil's pictures that looks like a power inverter circuit. If you can use it in a car or a boat, provided you can run extension cords to an outlet on dry land, it is kind of beside the point. |
