"American Modern" Magnavox on Chicago CL
Fairly uncommon set from 1950 I believe.
I'd try to get it if I just had the room ![]() ![]() http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/atq/2176791162.html (no affiliation) Last edited by bandersen; 01-24-2011 at 04:31 PM. |

Is the crackle in the surround from aging or original?

I'm not sure but here's another Magnavox I saw in an antique shop a while back. It doesn't have that crackle.

I wondered the same about the crackle. Pretty danged unusual for a TV. Gives sort of a marble pattern, but why . . . and why green? Something like a bezel or grille cloth should not call attention to itself. Who knows, maybe it's a botched paint job or the product of "antiquing."
I like the smaller Magnavox much better, but that's just my inner Grinch piping up. Phil NElson |

If anyone does go for the combo, it is a LOT easier to move if you take out the radio & tv chassis first. Real easy to do, too. Believe me, those combos are HEAVY!

I'd get rid of one of my Magnavox consoles to get this beauty. I've never seen a Maggie that old. Hopefully, it does make it to a new home for a restoration.

Kinda looks like lighting around the CRT, I dig it!

I'm pretty sure that crackling isn't supposed to be there.
It's probably possible to repaint it though. |
