Tvs from the movie

I want to dedicate this theard to old tv sets (black & white and also colour) that are apearing in different movies.
I'm curios about the next tvs
- The black & white one that the Pryor family is owning in the series "American dreams"
- The set that in the movie "La bamba" Donna (Danielle von Zerneck) watches Ritchie Valens (Lou Daimond Phillips) singing "Donna" at "American Banstand"
- The color set from the saloon of the sanatorium form the movie "Girl, interrupted" with Winona Ryder, Angelina Jolie and Whoopy Goldberg.

The set in "Girl, Interrupted" was not correct for the time period of the movie as it is a Zenith Chromacolor 2

yes.... Altho I can remember for sure which year the Chromacolor 2 came out, I know it was after 1973. IIRC Chromacolors were from 1970 to 1974 or 5. Chromacolor 2's were from 1974 or 5 thru 1979 when the System 3 came out.

talking TV ....in "Bewitched" the tv set in the living room changes over time ...I have always wondered what the sets were? Certainly in the first couple of series they appear to B?W sets but later one are colour....

I think a Zenith rectangular color set is used in "Bewitched".

Here are some other movies where TV's seem to be prominent:

Forrest Gump: RCA CTC-25 or so w/Moon landing, Motorola rectangular with fireworks, RCA CTC-36 or 53 with New Years Eve at bar, RCA 1970's set when girl is walking on railing, B/W set (RCA?) with Elvis.

Valley of the Dolls...many shots of Zenith 23" rectangular set with remote being used. This film is from 1967 and appears to take place in that year.

Coal Miner's Daughter...RCA CTC-38 in Patsy Cline's living room, 1970's Zenith 23" Chromacolor 2 with Loretta Lynn on TV. May be another one too.

Road Trip: 23" Zenith solid state Chromacolor 2 at someone's Granddad's house.

Beyond the Valley of the Dolls (1970) there is a Zenith 19 or 22" rectangular color set actually playing but the vert. hold is flipping. This movie is just plain freaky!

[QUOTE=Telecolor 3007]I want to dedicate this thread to old tv sets (black & white and also colour) that are apearing in different movies.

OK, does anyone recall the name of a Technicolor film from the late 1940s - early 50s with a scene showing a large cabinet style 'COLOR' TV operating in a film studio office? It looks like a CBS Color set of the era, and the action on the screen plays prominently in the scene.

The set has a round tube with the top and bottom cut off. It is, of course, a simulation but it's a great scene foreshadowing the coming of color.

It's not "There's No Business Like Show Business" or "Singing in the Rain"
but I think it is a film about Hollywood musicals.

Thanks for any information you might have on this. I'd like to find it to make a demo disk for my Col-R-Tel.

Regards,
Cliff

Cliff,

It might have been the 1950 Technicolor film "My Blue Heaven." Many of the scenes, especially the music numbers, take place in a tv studio. I recall all the control room monitors and a home tv receiver in a living room scene had color pictures on their screens. All inserted via post production special effects of course. Here's the IMDb site info on this film:

I caught the ending of Apollo 13 on TV last night; the TV at home is a CTC-40, I am pretty sure. A good pick both datewise and because it was a fairly top of the line and technologically advanced set, fitting for an astronaut.

Thanks very much! I got the DVD and there certainly are A LOT of great shots of old vintage B&W sets and B&W studio equipment making glorious color 'video' in this film.

My favorite is the shot of the RCA projection set with the screen that 'flips-up' out of the top. I would like to add a color wheel to one of those sets and make reality out of what is seen in the film.

I wonder if there are other movies of this era with color TV images matted into recognizable B&W TVs?

Regards,
Cliff
