Interesting '46 Westinghouse radio/phono combo

I went back to that flea market where I bought the AM/FM Zenith with the burned power transformer and bought this '46 Westinghouse model H-122A radio/phono combination. I ended up giving $50 for this, which is probably top dollar. I normally don't fool with '40's radio/phono combinations unless they are under $20; but, this one is a little unusual. The radio portion can be seperated from the phonograph and used as a stand alone radio. It's also interesting that this unit uses a push-pull audio amp; so, it should sound decent once restored.

Does anyone have any idea who made the record changer? It's 78 rpm only and uses a heavy tracking force setscrew style crystal cartridge that I feel is probably bad. Now, I'm wondering should I have the old cartridge rebuilt or attempt to retrofit something more modern. I'm sure this thing would feel right at home with some Harry James, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, and Glenn Miller 78's stacked on it.

That is very nice, I think i might have seen the radio by itself but not with the matching turntable/docking station.

If it uses the older style rochelle salt cartridges (usually made by astatic) expect it to be bad. I have run across about a half dozen of this type, and they all were nonfunctional. I typically replace mine with these cheapy Ronette cartridges:

No affilitation with this seller-he just has them in stock. I really only use them as it comes with a mounting bracket that matches up pretty well. Sounds okay, too-although I am sure that the biasing is not a match. Have fun with this one. Looks like it will be real nice.
