GE 806 scored!

I just picked up this little GE 806 today. It's in great shape. Only a little rust on the brass knobs holding the safety glass in place and a few scratches on the cabinet.
I powered up with a variac and got a raster and sound

What's up with the half-socket on the CRT? Were they trying to save a few pennies ?

I think the half socket is fairly common. My Sylvania uses the exact same one and the Sencore LC3 leakage tester uses a half socket.

What surprises me is seeing the two pins on the CRT base. What CRT does it use?

Nice score , much like the 10T4 I got .
It also have the half CRT plug .
It should originally have had a 10FP4 in it , but mine was replaced with a 10BP4 ....
The 2 pins is strange , considering it has electromagnetic focus , and that only requires 1 pin .

I believe it's the original 10FP4.

I meant I get a line on the screen so the flyback and CRT are good.

Yes, it was. I just happened to be browsing through eBay and stumbled upon it a few hours before bidding ended. I was quite surprised to see it was in my area at a reasonable price.

No I just surf through the old tv's on ebay about twice a week .
Im really glad you bought it .

They are quite a neat set , I can see some of the caps in my 10T4 is going to be a tough go , everything is mounted on 2 double sided boards , almost like a printed circuit .

By the way I have the 10T4 photofact on a PDF It doesn't say that it covers the 806 , but Im pretty sure the chassis is the same .
Just a newer year and a bit different cabinet .

GE, save a few pennies? no way!

Actually, it's easy - most tubes of that vintage just need a hookup on that side of the socket, so, it made sense to just make a 1/2 socket plug.

I think this will be a fairly easy restore. It's a transformerless set with a selenium voltage doubler. I've become familiar with those from working on my Motorolas.

The extra unused pins on the CRT base, like the "half" socket is not uncommon. The bases were fabricated to support CRTs with and without electrostatic focus. GE likely just bought what the vendor had made.
