AK 427 console

From a mention in the BW forum, I moved this VK find to here. Not a great find but cheap fun. Power up later.

A local CL find in S Phila. Early 30's AC set. Very economy lowboy. Family piece that no one wanted to keep. Just as pretty as it looks. 7 tubes, AM/SW. Chassis is held in by a wood plug. No screws. And what is that switch on the back? Antenna connections are local/distant by the instructions inside the cabinet.

Pix not loading right now...stay tuned.

More on the AK 427

Got the pix to load. (Mods - had to do them one at a time).

An AM/SW two-band. Only up to about 3.5mhz.

Tuner drive is a rubber ring on the tuning control which rubs against a toothed plate behind the dial. Rubber is gone. About a piece of 3/8" rubber hose should do it.

A look underneath is interesting. Someone tied the local/distant antenna leads to ground. The shielded wire to the T1 coil which used to carry the L/D wires is also tied to the same ground. The proper ground is still in place.

And a headset pin connection was added via a switch off of the 2nd detector. You can see it on the back. That will go away.

Some hard rubber wire needs changing. A large potted container with 11 caps needs checking. Mostly .0x caps.

Volume control is all but frozen. Soaking right now.

And if anyone has a donor cabinet, I could use a little ornate trim piece. About 4" long near the top on the right.
