Kolster 6J Frankenstein set
Kolster 6J set needs extensive wiring to save from scrap heap at power supply. The original wiring harness from rf chassis to power supply is still good being cotton braided wire.
The power supply wiring simply fell apart just moving it around to access main multi section filter cap.Nearly 100 yo plastic wiring, probaly some of the first plastic wiring used. I need to verify transformer is good with meter before rewiring. Luckily the schematic has color codes for wires as some are faded and or discolored. Will do work in chunks so not overwhelming. Extensive rewiring. The rectifier tube was shorted out and gassy. Literally saving this from scrap heap. Probaly someone started this set up with all old filter caps expecting radio to work. Nearly a third of power supply is a large multi filer cap. All caps are connected separately. May even have line filter cap included also. These early radios must if been dreaded by radio shops .when old specialty caps no longer available, have to recreate a replacement.
No early industry standards on marking + or - terminals. My kolster k23 had cap with wiring diagram. This cap for 6J no such luck If someone could reply with a tuner chassis Pic of back of tuning gang without tubes would help thanks. Last edited by Videotechie; 11-15-2025 at 11:02 AM. |

Nice wiring work, the colors are a must to keep original.
I can get colored wire like that from car and appliance harnesses.
