Zenith question: Differences between K731 and T2542 models?

Hello everyone,

I'm very interested in a radio currently offered on e-pray. It is a Zenith T2542, wood case tabletop model, and it looks exactly like a K731. Can anyone tell me if it is, in fact, the same radio? Reason states there would be some kind of difference, hence the differing model number.

The guy offering the radio lives near me, so if I win it I'll happily skip the shipping crap shoot and pick the radio up in person. We've exchanged emails, and he seems like a friendly sort. It is auction #5769593307, but please don't bid unless you CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT IT! In that case, I'll back off.

Thanks everyone!

That looks like a slightly later revision of the K731, notice that this one has an extra switch for FM AFC. I also don't recall the 731 having legs, but that's prolly a minor point anyway.

Wow, old thread, but still relevant to my interests. :P

I am now also wondering the difference(s) between these two radios. I own two K731s and just discovered the T2542 through eBay. Nick_the_'Nole states that the T2542 has an 'extra' switch for FM-AFC...however, the photos of the T2542 I have seen are exactly identical in every way to both of my K731s (which are themselves identical twins), including that switch, which appears to be the same across everything. Both of my K731s also have legs. I initially suspected that the T2542 lacks the troublesome electrostatic tweeter (which I still have yet to find a suitable replacement for!), but this is not the case.

Perhaps Zenith simply reclassified this radio after a time, during production?

I tried looking up that model on Beitman's. I found a model T2546, which is a solid state model.
The various seven tube models had a few changes through the years: 1958-1966.

I'm wrong again! The second time this year.
IIRC, that's the last of the seven tube models. Slight differences in the FM front end and AM convertor. Also a different ratio and AM detector, 1st amp tube.

I do know that (unless I'm losing it) both radio models have the same tube complement.
