Telefunken Opus 7
Good afternoon,
I have suddenly become quite infactuated with tube audio, and older radios. In my search for knowledge I came across a Telefunken Opus 7 for sale, and I had a few questions. From what I could gather, they are a tube radio, have 6 speakers, and were one of the top of the line Telefunken radios in 1955/1956. I was curious, as to what experiences some of you have had with these radios, I have read a few people saying they are still one of the best you can get. Also, what would a fair market value be for one in a excellent condition, with all bands working, and all tubes working? Any other information would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

Not sure what they sell for but I have a complete manual that came with the Opus 7 I inherited from my Grandfather. I enjoy mine but don't play it all that often.

For table top tube radios you can't do too much better than an Opus 7 really. Value of course is subjective with whether its working and condition having a large impact. But also whether it has been overhauled and had its electrolytics replaced and old capacitors replaced. An un restored Opus 7 in good condition seems to almost always fetch at least 200.00 or more on da bay and then you usually have to pay 50.00 or more to ship them. Either way they are worth pursuing...

If the price is good and it's in good shape cosmetically and operationally I'd grab it !! They sound wonderful with the 6 speaker set-up. They make AM + shortwave sound good so you know the FM is even better. I've got an Opus 6 and it's a definite keeper. I've seen fully restored ones go for $700-800 on ebay.

I would agree it's worth $200 or more, depending on condition.
As mentioned, it will need electronic restoration -- basically, replacing old electrolytic and other capacitors, plus cleaning the controls with DeOxit, and so on. That is not rocket science, but if you have never restored a tube radio yourself, I would either look for one that has been electronically restored, or find someone in your area who would undertake the job. This would not be a good beginner's project. You could contact a nearby radio collector club and ask for a repairman recommendation.
