RCA CTC-5 on (unmentionable site) Philadelphia

Just saw this set show up on eBay... (not mine, no idea who's). Doesn't look like the seller knows beans about color TVs. Could be a steal? Starts at $50. Can't tell if pencil box door is missing or not.

Cool!

From the auction description: "...Wonder what will end the digital system in the future?"--Something totally new. Something that is probably unfathomable to us today.

Somehow I don't believe the shipping estimate of $40 from Phila. to N.O.

I haven't been able to check all the newest threads over the past week, but, has anyone checked out the free fifties roundie on the ETF classifieds? Rough, but for that price...

The Philadelphia set will be interesting to watch. If I didn't have a -5 already I would have to throw a bid in there.

I saw it Bryan, It's over 300 miles from me or I'd grab it in a heartbeat. It looks like a CTC-7 in a metal cabinet, could be a 9 too, hard to tell in the pics.
Go ahead and throw in a bid, you know you want to and it's not the same model as yours is it? I thought you had an Aldrich. I'd bid on a 5 in a second if I could find one within a sane distance, the 5s had some of the best cabinets. I would collect them all if I could.

Note the two repair tags when the set was four or five years old. Hope they were just tune ups, as, if they watched just color shows, couldn't have had many hours on it.

It's positively a 5. Those were the only ones to have the spring-loaded drop down door below the screen, and also the brass trim and contour-shaped safety glass are unique to the 5..

I know this one's a 5, we were talking about the 7 on the ETF website for free. Sorry for any confusion caused in this thread due to OT conversations.

Bryan: The Whitby is a great looking set, I thought you had the table model for some reason.

Oh No! It's A SUPER Chassis.

I have discovered: The set is a 1956 Westcott with a maple cabinet and a CTC5D "Super" chassis.

Elvis has the blond version in the room with a piano in his Graceland house.

He sure did, the Super can produce a nice picture too. Not as great as the Deluxe but still quite good.

Yeah, apparently the difference in performance between Super and Deluxe 5s has been exaggerated since sometime after the net came along.

My -5 is a Whitby; it also came from Philadelphia orginally, and with more repair tags than this one!
