When I got this set twenty years ago, something told me shoudn't oughta, but, I did. Here is bad history on set.
First: Power transformer was shorted. I replaced that. I re capped it. Set actually came to life, and, showed a picture. Not real bright, but, a picture. Zoom ahead to 4 months. Turned it on one evenning, suddenly "POP!" and, no raster. Sound came on. I looked in back quickly as I was reaching for the plug. Damper tube was cherry red. Not good. Took set apart, and, tried manny parts. Even replaced flyback, width coil, and, tried different tubes, all with the same results. No hv, and, plate on damper turning red. Somebody got interested in the set. I wasn't anxious to get rid of it, but, decided to. He wanted to get case re finnished. I had glass mask off for cleanning carefully, as mask on it is fully painted on both sides. I told him I'd protect the glass for him. He didn't trust me, and, said he'd take it with him. Six months later, he brought entire set back with glass smashed. He said he dropped it. I still had the chassis, but, he didn't trust me, and, demanded to take all screws, and, knobs with him. When I got it back, I got only half the knobs, no spkr, and, smashed glass. To add insult to injury, the original colotr was dark brown mahoganny. They refinnished it in flat deep red mahoganny. O.K. Here is the situation. I might end up stripping set. I had put a new pix tube in it, and, never got to see a picture on it. Found out what I think is at least part of original problem. Second anode lead is heavy cloth, and, turned to cement. Wire broke off clip on pix tube, and, was hanging towards chassis. I'm trying to decide what to do with this set. I'd like to fix it, but, in order to do that I need a good original painted glass for it, and, a set of knobs, a 6"X9" oval spkr., and, chassis bolts. Can anyone help me?? Is the set doable anymore? Does anyone have parts for it, lie original glass, spkr., and, a set of knobs??? Or, is this set just too far gone?? Bill Cahill

Well, I've heard no replies, so, I guess I'll junk the set.

Stripped chassis tonight. The bad news is my loose picture tube base came completely off. Now, I have five wires hanging out, and, I haven't been good at fixing these in the past. I need this tube. It's new old stock, and, I want to put it in my Admiral.
Too bad I couldn't save the Capehart. Bill Cahill

I removed the base on my Philco 48-2500 TP-400 CRT to fix a loose wire.
I cleaned the 4 wires on the TP-400 and solder sucked the solder where they attach at the base. Then took my drill and a small drill bit to make the hole bigger. Then carefully straightened and aligned the heavy wires that come out of the CRT. Then slide some tiny wires through the base holes and solder tacked them on. Then carefully slid the base down on the CRT neck while holding light tension on the tiny wires and used black electrical tape to attach the base on the CRT neck. Cut the tiny wires off and re-soldered the CRT base pins. The key trick really is to make the pin holes in the CRT base bigger using the drill bit and using the tiny wires to guide the CRT pins into the base. Takes about 15 minutes. Carl
