BW TV on hairpin swivel stand - what make?
Finding this set in a random internet picture, I knew a family that had one of these.
Hairpin TV.JPG Like most farming families, when the TV broke, they moved it to the barn as it was to wean kids "off TV" as was common in the early 70s. I would pester to fix it as an experiment as only a 12 year-old would, but they always declined, politely but firmly. I do recall the TV stand had side rails that could be pulled out to fit a larger TV. I have a 1958 Muntz 327T4 (big 27" blonde monster) that I am making a non-swivel stand using steel rod to match.

Thanks, likely one that has the vertical PC boards under a big metal chassis cover, so only tubes are accessible. Much disassembly required

Yup RCA me thinks. Those donut chassii were dogs. Still a few around in the 70's. At most we would make them "run" again but have the customer sign off
for ZERO warranty. I think they were one reason for Zeniths success. They were so easy you would try to sell them above the rest. At a Mom & pop I did everything from cleaning the toilet to the pay roll. You do what you can to make life easy. Zeno ![]() LFOD ! |

I think that sums it up for why RCA wasn't more successful in those critical years when color was priority one, while Zenith was making better monochrome sets
