JVC HR-D470U Issues
Hello everyone, recently I had acquired a JVC HR-D470U 4-Head Hi-Fi VCR (the one that the tape loads in sideways, and that had a Zenith version of it that was mono) and I had to swap drive belt out for the tape loading mechanism that loads the tape into the tape heads and when I went to put the machine back together I unfortunately messed up the timing for the loading mechanism, and I'm trying to figure out how to get the mechanism so that it will load the tape into the heads and not shutdown, and I'm trying to find a service manual for this VCR which there are several sites that have a free download but they want me to turn off my adblocker software but I can't get my adblocker software to turn off (AdBlockerPlus used to have a way to temporarily turn it off, and then turn it back on again, but it doesn't seem to have that option anymore.)
Does anyone have any idea how this VCR's tape loading mechanism is supposed to be timed (like are there timing markings that are supposed to be lined up a certain way) that you could mark out for me on a diagram or does anyone have a service manual that they could scan the page pertaining to the tape loading mechanism that they could post on here for me? Thanks in advance. |

There was a HiFi stereo Zenith version too, as well as a Zenith version that turned the deck sideways to sit in a vertical pocket in some consoles and was higher end than the normal HiFi model.
I in your shoes I'd uninstall the ad blocker make the download and reinstall the ad blocker. Or install a different browser as a workaround.

You should not have let anything move when you had it apart (obviously)! This belt is a bitch to change! It probably would have been a good idea to clean the mode switch since you were so deep in. Hopefully these pictures help. Notice how the holes have to line up. When you put the control cam back on there is a projection that goes into the groove. Also note that One screw is shorter than the 2 others. If this is out of place, the mechanism will jam. While you are in this machine, check the power supply caps. I will almost guarantee capacitor C17 - 3300uF @ 16V will be bad. This will cause any tape to play in EP instead of the correct speed. Check ESR on the rest too, if you can. It might be best just to replace all.

BTW, the free service manuals are for the European versions. I believe the mechanism is the same but the circuits are all different. There is a site that has the US version for around $15. The scan is not really that great. If you can get a real paper copy, that is best.
I wish I had a list of service bulletins and copies of those too. There is also a Video Technical Guide for this model and a Mechanism Guide too. I have the Video Technical Guide but not the one for the mechanism. If anyone has one, or any bulletins, I would buy them. |
