Got CTC-11 from estate sale today

Went to an estate sale in Midland Fri.and there was what appeared to be a CTC-10. This is a very rare sight here as I have never seen anything older than a CTC-16 in this area. It had a black lacquer finish and appeared to sit on a detachable base which had large casters on it.
I tried it out and there was light on the screen but no real reception of stations.
They were asking $300 for it which is too much for me but Sunday is 1/2 price day so if it's still there I may think about getting it.

Today I went back to the sale and got the round set plus a '79 RCA for $50. It is actually a ctc-11 and appears to have remote control.

Does the later set work ? I'm not interested in it, just looks like it might make a dandy "shop" set if it does. The CTC-11 is very nice looking-how does it stand up to closer inspection? In any case, good score-another old veteran saved !!-Sandy G.

Sandy, I don't know if the '79 RCA works...was plugged in so probably does, I have not tried it yet..it has on-screen display. Also I got the full set of owner's manuals and hang-tags for both sets.

That is one proud looking Poppa on the back of that truck. Nice score! I am certain that we will soon see pictures of it working.

I have only found one roundie at an Estate sale. It was a maggie for $30.00. Had to pass on a Maggie combo because nobody would help me lift it in the truck. Knowing what I know now, I would have taken it apart to get it in the truck.

I have to get one of those lifts for my truck. It would make loading a set a little easier.

Chad,
You look like one happy camper standing by your latest roundie! I cant wait to hear the details when you finally get a chance to check it out. The 79 is a neat looking set also. Great find bud and hang tags to boot!

Chad,

Cool Score! That is a very attractive looking 11... even for a metal set! The gold accents really make a difference! When did the Midland/Odessa area start getting color? Not exactly a heavily populated area and seems color would have come along somewhat late compared to others. Was there a tag anywhere on the set indicating where it came from?

Good luck on it's repairs!

Casters on an early color set-that could have been trouble unless it had auto degaussing. Did they have such a thing that early? A great find, though, for certain.

Chad,

Very nice CTC-11. The base unit was an option on the table model sets to give them that consolette look. They usually had legs attached to them. Some one may have swapped the legs for casters. Wow! the original hang tags may suggest this was a dealer set still in storage. Also the remote models have an "R" in the model #.

Thanks for your good comments for the CTC-11. There is a file folder containing its documents that has the original place of purchase listed but it is saying it was bought in '64..it seems to me that ctc-11 was maybe 61 or 62?

Yes the price went from $300 to 50, plus they threw in a '79 RCA console with OSD for free. There was no one else interested in the sets and they were glad that I came back for them.

The manual says it's a remote set but I haven't opened it up to check for sure.

The CTC-10-11's dont have automatic degauss. The first one I remember seeing with this was the CTC-16. I could be wrong about this.

I'd say the CTC-11 would be around mid 1962.

This is same exact model I got about a month ago that's in my garage, has a great picture and all the original parts, previous guy just scoped it all out beforehand. I still have to get back to him and see if he got ahold of the legs and/or base that his buddy had somewhere else. Really has a beautiful picture for such an old set. Good luck with yours...Frenchy

We brought the set in the house and I tried turning it on...there is no power now. Tried a different cord but no luck...will need to check and see where the circuit breaker is in the circuit, or maybe the power switch is bad. It has a 21GUP22/21FBP22 Colorama crt installed in 1972. The damper tube has a wafer base...it appears the set was maintained for a fairly long time.
