Channel Master 21FJP22

I ran across a TV with a Channel Master rebuilt 21FJP22 Although Iv'e not heard such great things about Channel Master quality This tube is bright and sharp and looks great. Looking at the neck written with sharpie on one of the gun grids is RCA. Could this be a Colorama? Does anyone know if RCA ever rebuild for Channel Master or Channel Master just bought the guns.

Barring unusual defects elsewhere the only 2 parts that have to be changed in a rebuild are the heater and cathode (and you can just recoat the cathode if you're desperate). Smaller rebuilders typically bought gun assemblies, but larger opperations could have made or rebuilt in house. If it was rebuilt in the late 70s-90s after new guns were NLA or during the color shortage (of IIRC 1967) they may have been best served or limited to cathode/heater replacement. The gun needs to be essentially clean room grade clean so they ain't gonna scrub or grind old makers marks off the gun.

We had very good results with Channel Master rebuilds back in the 60's.

In the '70s & '80s I had great success selling Channel Master rebuilt tubes. Not one ever failed under warranty. Channel Master also had B & C grade tubes available that I would install in the trade ins for resale. Lower grade tubes simply meant more defects were permitted in the focal area of the picture.
