Acquired a 1950 Philco 50-T702
I had sold one of these many years ago and always regretted it. I saw a chance to grab this one at a good price and jumped at it. It was a totally complete untouched attic find set that needed some TLC. I didn't completely refinish it, but lightly sanded and re-lacquered along with some detailing. My friend restored the chassis and it works very well with it's original Philco CRT. These usually have bad picture fade after about 20 minutes, but this one is very good. One of the last compact early 7" TV's.

decojoe67,
Looks real nice. I just finished a Sentinel 400-TV with a 7 inch crt. Your picture looks good too. I like your detailing of the tuner knob, did you repaint the numerals? Ed |

That's definitely a very nice looking Philco. It''s one of the few Philco models that I wouldn't mind having an example of.

Thanks. It reminds me of a pre-war TV attachment model. I particularly like the 2-level deep masking. The mask and tube are actually very slightly tilted upwards.

That's a nice set.
IIRC those used brute Force 60Hz transformer derived HV. Be careful working on it if you ever have it open.

Thank you for that advice. My repairman didn't comment on that, but he's worked on everything and anything that had vacuum tubes in it! You'd had to see the bag of old components he had from this set. You wouldn't think all that would even fit inside the chassis!

Doesn’t it use a 6V6 oscillator supply, like the bakelite version?

I could be wrong about the HV supply the only pre-split-chassis Philco I've owned is my 48-1000 so I'm going off (miss-?)remembered forum posts.

Yes, I'm 99% sure this is not a brute force set. Possibly the earlier 7" model, the 48-700, is brute force.

Thanks for verifying that. I actually never warmed-up to the 48-700 model with it's German "Grundig-Majestic" styling. It's a heavy beast and uses the 7GP4 CRT rather than the common 7JP4 too.
