C0G ceramic should be fine. I have a hunch the lower voltage micas that were shorting were chosen because they were whatever the previous repair man had on hand.

These couplates are integrators as I mentioned earlier. Google the part number on the disc and you will find their values and you can make them out of discreet parts. Very troubelsome critters
