Admiral TV
A few months ago there was a Admiral TV on ebay that was for sale for $ 60.00. It was located in Syosett, NY. It appeared to be about a 1969 model. Did anybody here wind up with that one ?
When I first started looking for a vintage color set back in March, it was a set I was considering if I couldn't find one in a more traditional style. I even talked to the person selling it and they really wanted me to take it............ Then luck happened and Doug listed the 1969 French Provincial Color Sylvania. It was the style I wanted, but never thought I would find. I then had to find a shipper that was reasonable enough to get it here, since I live in TN. I also had to fight 20 something other bids for it.....I'll just say, I was like a mad dog....."THAT SET WAS GOING TO BE MINE" .....Anyway, I posted the link to the Admiral I'm talking about below. Old Admiral TV's seem rare to me. I never see them around here, then again, I hardly ever see any vintage TV's that much around here pre-1970. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...:X:RTQ:US:1123

Nope I was going to pick it up since its under 50 minutes for me but I just never bid on it... Looks clean though, if it didn't sell I'm sure he'll relist

most of them have instant on - so more than likely it will need a CRT. Sometimes you get lucky and the owner had it on a wall switch.
The more can be rescued from fish tanking, picture framing and crushing the better. Get all you can store.

Its still available. He wants 20 dollars for it, which seems fair even though it didn't go for 99 cents. We all know it is worth 20 bucks.
Alas, I'm finding out if the legs unscrew, since the measurements are 34.9 " with legs and my car's door dimensions are 34".... I ain't taking the ride for it not to fit. The woodwork looks really nice, that's the selling point for me. If I scored one of these local, working or not, you better believe the cabinet would be toast with my luck...

EDIT: This set is listed under SAMS photofact 1054-1-Does anyone happen to know what year this one was built? The seller says 50s or 60s but I think more like 1970.

Its a '69. I have this same set with the fold open doors. When working properly, these admirals can rival the picture quality of a zenith. Hope you can save it. Its well worth it.

Thanks Doug! Knew it wasn't a Fifties set. Seller claims it works well and has excellent picture and sound with 'beautiful' color... Just waiting for hm to let me know if the legs are removable. No one I know has a truck...

I figured it was about a 68 or 69 by looking at it. I don't have a copy of SAMS, but being a Archivist and a 60's fanatic, I can usually date things pretty well by looking at them.
I hope you save it. I wonder if it's a remote control unit ? I can't really tell by the photo.

Doubt it's remote control... Doug's site mentions this set being an economy model...and his has the cabinet with doors...
I looked up Home Depot's truck rental and this might be an option for me, good idea Brian
