I broke my daily watcher! help please

I just did the stupidist thing ever. My 1955 Majestic 21 inch console was working great, but I felt I needed to touch up the VHF oscillator slug for channel 3. Well the slug started to jam up and I continued to turn. Busted the coil. Why did I mess with the TV today?!?!?! Arrrg.

This set uses a turret type tuner. If you look at the pictures I attached you can see how I busted the coil. Its the strip for channel 3, the only one I use! It looks like the wire is wound on cardboard. THe first winding gor chewed up when the slug jammed up in the cardboard, and insulation is missing.

Can someone rewind this for me? I'm sure its not too hard, but I don't have the time. The TV has been a great performer until I got board and tried to fix something that wasn't broken.

Thanks for any help!

Swap it with the #2 or #4 coil and retune it carefully. While the replacement coil is in your hand, make sure it tunes easily before putting it in the three slot.

Thanks for the advice, Don!

I swapped out the coil but during adjustment I went in to far with the adjustment slug. DOH. So I've got the TV on 4, but I've tuned the osc. slug down to channel3. It looks great.

I don't want to pull the chassis again. When I pulled it I didn't have the center of gravity right and when I slid the chassis out the cabinet the weight of the CRT was in front of where I was holding. I did a nice plummet towards the carpet with the chassis with attached 21inch CRT. The chassis took the force of the fall thank God. Embarrasing becuase I am only 26 and in good shape!

Got to love our hobby!

Those were often called "standard coil" tuners--and such can be interpreted that way. You can probably find a donor tuner in a junker somewhere and grab a segment from it. Been there, done that.
