RCA 8tc271 Free in Tulsa OK.

A person by the name of Tom Murphy contacted me via my web site. He has this RCA he wants to give away. Contact him at his email below. He is in Tulsa OK. This set uses the 16AP4 metal cone crt and the seller says the set has a NOS crt. I have one of these sets in my collection. Hopefully someone can save this one. I got mine 12 years ago in Phillidelphia. It was a long drive from Milwaukee.

Funny. I got my RCA 8TC271 from Philadelphia 7 years ago. I drove from Syracuse in a March snowstorm to pick mine up and I thought that was a drive.

It is my favorite 1940's TV design. RCA really went to town with this their first 'big screen' tv. 27 tubes, split sound, four stage video IF for full 4MHz video bandwidth, dc coupled video and a two stage sync separator second to none. It even has a high voltage doubler for the CRT supply. It delivers a great picture.

Wow this is really bizarre. On the trip to Philly to get my set, I was coming up from Myrtle Beach SC. where I also picked up a CTC5. On the drive north to Philly I got into a bad snow storm. I was supposed to meat the seller that afternoon but the snow storm had traffic down to a crawl. Philly was shut down and I didn't get to Philly until about 7PM. I was able to reach the seller by phone and we arranged to meat the next morning as Philly was digging out. I remember the tv was in a basement and the stairwell was very narrow. We had to lift the set high over our head to clear a narrow part of the stairwell to get the set out of the basement.

On a serious note, I have a friend who has the exact set, and it was a damn good performer!
Hard to put scale on that one, because it looks like it would be a 10" or 12" set.
It's a large set with the 16AP4, and about as deep as a bowling alley.

I have this chassis (but with a radio) in a more conventional styled console, it is a (NOS) 16AP4, and it has a great picture.
The chassis has two 5U4's as I recall, and two 1B3 HV rectifiers in a doubler circuit to drive the big CRT.

It is also the biggest set I have, it dwarfs a conventional 21" set from the 50's, it even dwarfs a 21" CTC7, it's also very deep thanks to the 16AP4.

I can't imagine how those spindly legs on the Queen Anne model support the weight.
